Sound performance for extended electronics

Adrift between (in)organics, electrolysis and astable vibrations, all whirled up in a cacophony of the unexpected, questioning the material boundaries, of electronics.

The concept for circuits of extended phenotype was initially inspired by J. Lovelocks and L. Margulis Gaia theory of bio-geological evolution, that proposes an extended view upon organisms, and their influence on the environment, embracing the nearly infinite reciprocities, between earth and it’s inhabitants. I found Gaian perspective upon organisms as an inspiring leap-point to rethink electronic sound circuit design towards one that could interact with biotic and abiotic environment in it’s full functionality. Through this post-humanist viewpoint for electronics, I invite to rethink the material boundaries of electronic devices, think of how we address the ever growing nature/techne divide, and how sound and listening can become a bridging medium.

Elemental encounters is a research based sound performance, originating from a broader concept of circuits of extended phenotype - fragile and sensitive, "soft" electronic instruments and elemental techniques of playing with them.

In this performance I focus on sounding through liquids - liquids that activate the oscillatior circuits and thus invite environment, both biotic and abiotic to act upon their vitality. Temperature, gravity, humidity, chemical species or even microbial life and it’s residue enact together in the emerging composition.
